Silence From Black Pulpits Concerning the Philando Castille Case is absolutely unacceptable. It has been more than a week since officer Jeronimo Yanez was acquitted of any wrong-doing in the shooting death of Philando Castile — a man who was in legal possession of a firearm that he advised informed Yanez he had. After following all of the directives of the officer, Philando Castile was shot a total of five times, with a total of seven shots being fired into the car.
To exacerbate the situation, Castile’s young daughter was in the back seat, and her mother was in the passenger seat. What it is conspicuous is the deafening silence from Black pulpits on this and multitudinous other social issues that plague the Black collective.

If Black churches are not serving and meeting the needs of neighborhoods they reside in, if they are not meeting the members at their point of need, if they are not addressing the enigmatic social issues that are inherent to the Black collective, they have failed in their responsibilities, and the leaders of these institutions must be held accountable.
The Black church is a multi-billion dollar conglomerate that generates the vast majority of its revenue from tithes and offerings collected from a population that has a median net worth of less than $7,000, and yet there are very few that are teaching financial literacy and wealth building. They are planted within the boundaries of Black neighborhoods that are struggling to holistically educate their youth, but there is no church presence in the educational process.
The church’s infrastructure has the capacity to meet all of these needs and more, and yet, it is conspicuously silent. This is absolutely unacceptable.
