The Black Voice Media Project is the brainchild of Rick Wallace, Ph.D., a champion of Black empowerment and liberation. Dr. Wallace is the author of 19 books, including his latest book, Born in Captivity: Psychopathology as a Legacy of Slavery. He is also the Director of Research & Program Development for The Odyssey Project, an organization he founded more than a decade ago to address the enigmatic issues in the Black community.

Dr. Wallace’s research has tackled significant issues, such as the intergenerational transmission of trauma, cognitive biases, depression, African American Adolescent and Young Adult Male Violence, and more. He has also been extremely vocal about external actions that oppress and terrorize the less fortunate.

The Black Voice Media Project will be used to give a voice to the voiceless, as well as map out viable strategies that will help the Black collective autonomously empower itself. Additionally, it will fulfill the demand by Dr. Claud Anderson, in his book, Powernomics, to create print and electronic media/talk shows in order to generate the power to write our own narrative, create more accurate images of who we are, provide more positive images for our children to aspire to, etc.

As you know, launching, promoting and managing a national radio program, print media, and educational programs, comes with significant costs. As part of the efforts to capitalize this endeavor, Dr. Wallace, and everyone at The Odyssey Project is asking the public to support the launch of this media project. He points out that the increase in media engagement and ownership by Blacks is essential to changing the image and the messages that impact blacks.
