The father of a former Stanford University athlete convicted on multiple charges of sexual assault has said his son should not have to go to prison for “20 minutes of action”.

Brock Turner, a former swimmer at Stanford University, was on Thursday sentenced to six months’ imprisonment and probation for sexually assaulting an unconscious woman.

The 20-year-old from Dayton, Ohio – who was convicted of three felonies, including assault with intent to rape – faced a maximum of 14 years in prison.

But Turner was expected to spend only three months of a six-month sentence in county jail after the judge, Aaron Persky, said positive character references and lack of a criminal record had persuaded him to be more lenient. Prison would have a “severe impact on him”, the judge said.

The decision sparked anger on social media, with many quoting from the victim’s impact statement, which went viral after being published by international media.

As a general rule, I don’t waste my time getting involved in the affairs of White people; however, this particular story so lucidly reveals how white privilege is not simply a social reality, but a psychopathology. The very idea that a father would marginalize the violation of a young girl to “20 minutes of action” speaks volumes to the character of the father, and his negative influence on his son. Not only does it reveal the psychopathology of White Privilege, it is a reflection of the very nature of the beast.

While a certain part of my point is predicated on the postulation that the victim was White (explaining why there was any action taken at all), illuminating how they have little regard for their own, the rape of any woman without even the slightest sense of remorse, speaks overwhelmingly against the idea of natural altruism or some innate sense of humanity.

Something else that should be observed is the consideration that the judge was concerned about prison time because of how it would effect him, with very little consideration being given to how it impacted the young lady. Interesting. We are going to have to learn that there is a specific nature of this beast and it cannot be tamed. ~ Dr. Rick Wallace, Ph.D.
