Whoopi Goldberg Reveals Being Threatened For Defending Bill Cosby

WHAT’S HOT

Whoopi GolbergWhoopi Goldberg had been vocal in her support of Bill Cosby when several women initially came forward accusing him of s*xual assault and drugging. Since then, a court document has been released revealing that in 2005, the comedian admitted to buying Qualudes and Benadryl for women, with the intention of having intercourse with them, and Goldberg is once again coming to his defense.

On Wednesday’s episode of “The View,” Goldberg stated that her stance on Cosby being innocent until proven guilty has caused some to threaten her and her family. But she insists that her naysayers will not sway her opinion.

“Not any of you threatening me or telling me you’re coming after me because you don’t like what I said is going to change the fact that no one has convicted him, he has not been arrested, and the bottom line is that’s the law–innocent, until proven guilty,” said Goldberg.

She then compared Cosby’s 30-plus accusers to the Black stripper who accused three White Duke University lacrosse team players of raping her.

“If you’re the mother of a son who gets accused, you want to keep innocent until proven guilty. Just ask the parents of the boys of the Duke lacrosse team. Remember that?” she said.

In the 2006 case, the woman had accused the three athletes of raping her while she was at the team’s party at which she was hired to perform. Charges against the young men were eventually dropped due to lack of DNA evidence and inconsistencies in her story, but the players’ reputations had been tarnished and they had already been kicked off the lacrosse team. The players sued the school for their treatment and won $20 million each.

On Tuesday, Raven-Symoné, who got her big break on “The Cosby Show,” chimed in on the issue.

“I don’t like to talk about it that much, because he’s the reason I’m on this panel in the first place, he gave me my first job,” Symoné said. “At the same time, you need the proof. Then I’ll be able to give my judgment here or there.”

Cosby was back in the news on Monday after a court document surfaced from a 2005 hearing in the case of Andrea Constand, a then-Temple University employee who sued the actor for drugging her and for s*xual assault. He admitted to giving Constand three half-tablets of Benadryl and confessed to giving another woman Qualudes before engaging in intercourse with her.
