 – The Harris County Institute of Forensic Sciences has positively identified the remains found in Arkansas on Friday as those of 4-year-old Maleah Davis.

The cause and manner of her death are pending.

On Friday, the remains were discovered on an Arkansas roadside in a garbage bag. Authorities in Arkansas processed the scene throughout the day on Friday. Once all evidence was collected, the remains, confirmed to belong to a human child, were then gathered and transported to Houston for testing.

TIMELINE: A look at the timeline of events in Maleah Davis case

The discovery came just hours after Derion Vence, Maleah Davis’ mother’s ex-fiance, confessed to Quanell X that Maleah is dead. He said it was an accident and that he dumped her body in Arkansas.

In addition to getting Derion Vence to confess his involvement in the murder of little Maleah Davis and securing information that led to locating her body, Quanell X also reveals that he believes that the girl’s mother, Brittany Bowens is withholding evidence and has passively protected Vence throughout the ordeal. Quanell even mentions the fact that at no time has she spoken ill of Vence, even after he was charged with tampering with evidence — namely the little girl’s body.

There is still much to be uncovered over the coming weeks. Brittany Bowens has never been able to explain why she would leave her 4-year-old daughter with a man she admits brought her daughter home from daycare without her knowledge, bathed her, and was sending sexually explicit pictures to another man. She can’t explain why she would leave her precious daughter with a man she had just threatened to expose in addition to ending the engagement.

The one thing that is painfully clear here is that little Maleah was failed multiple times on multiple fronts.
