No Justice for Freddie Gray ~ Not Surprised! ~ The news that officer Edward Nero of the Baltimore Police Department in the death of Freddie Gray has sparked a widespread debate about the judge and the entire process. I expect no different than the acquittal of Officer Edward Nero in the death of Freddie Gray. The only reason these officers were indicted in the first place was to lessen the tension, not because black citizens were rioting, but because the riots was costing white investors a significant amount of money. During the initial stages of the riots, at least three Baltimore Orioles games were canceled, which is significant when ticket sales, concessions, product sales and television revenue is considered. The businesses that were being burned were not black businesses, but primarily corporate and non-black businesses. There was a demand by investors and business owners to stop the financial bleeding and the announcement of charges being filed was the way to do it.

I learned a long time ago to expect my enemies to behave like, well, enemies. So the outcome does not disappoint me. What disappoints me is the fact that we are still being reactive instead of proactive.

Saturday, at the Black Male Summit, Brother Deric Muhammad told the young African American males that prisons are being built for black males without a plan. I would add that the entire systematic, institutional, racist infrastructure is designed to exploit a race of people without a collective plan or agenda. You cannot enter a war of this magnitude without a strategy. As long as Blacks continue to be reactive, instead of proactive, we will continually find ourselves behind the eight ball in our attempt to effectively deal with the pernicious impact of institutional racism on a grand scale.

Protesting without the underwriting of economic strength, and a focused spending agenda, means absolutely nothing. We are the only group that functions through the conduit of emotion, and so we continue to have our efforts frustrated because everyone else speaks an entirely different language. It is time to make our presence felt, and it starts with developing a unified, strategic economic agenda. ~ Dr. Rick Wallace, Ph.D.
