Kimberly Jones, Keaton Jones, and the Bullying Scam

If you have followed me for any amount of time, you are aware of the fact that I do not condone bullying in any form. In fact, I posted a video addressing the importance of effectively confronting this type of behavior on every level just last week. With that being said, this recent ordeal concerning Kimberly Jones and her son, Keaton Jones, has uncovered an issue that requires immediate attention.

Regardless of color, I have no tolerance for bullying; however, I am a staunch advocate of taking care of home first. There can be no external love until we have mastered self-love. I say this because I see Blacks caping harder for Keaton Jones (A White male) than they have for any of the several young Black girls who killed themselves over the past month as a result of bullying. Even after bringing this to the attention of the public there was not nearly the outcry behind the death of these young Black kids as it was for the alleged mistreatment of little Keaton Jones.

Yes, I say allegedly because a lot has been uncovered over the last several days concerning Kimberly Jones and her idea that Black athletes and celebrities should stop their whining and protesting and just do their jobs, despite accepting help from some of these same athletes. One White mixed-martial artist says that when he contacted the family to reach out to extend an encouraging word, the entire conversation was about money and White people sticking together.

For further insight, watch the following video.

There is also all of the white supremacy rhetoric that was located on her social media profiles before she shut them down to the public. It amazes me that we can’t go hard in the paint for our own, but we will rise up to strike down the tyranny of bullying when it is a White kid getting bullied. We have yet to come to a place in which we love ourselves enough to be okay with loving ourselves more than our enemies. My problem is not so much that Blacks caped so hard for Keaton, or even that they did so without performing their due diligence (which would have definitely been the case of Keaton were Black), but it is based on the fact that Blacks did not give this type of attention to little Black girls being bullied to the point that they killed themselves.

We are still too concerned with what others think about how we love ourselves and put ourselves first despite the fact that we are the only group that does not do this with any consistency. We care far too much about the random opinions of others. Until we gain a lucid perspicacity of the power of self-love, we will continue to be our own worst enemy.

“If there is no enemy on the inside, the enemy on the outside can do us no harm.” ~ African Proverb

I wish that we could put the energy and passion into loving our own babies and fighting for their well-being in the manner that we have invested in the rescue and coddling of Keaton Jones. No, I am not suggesting that the bullying of any child is right, but I am saying, in no uncertain terms, that we must care for our own first and foremost. ~ Rick Wallace, Ph.D., Psy.D.
