Bob McNair

The title line is actually addressing a statement made by Houston Texans’ owner, Bob McNair, during a meeting of the owners recently. He was referring to a discussion about implementing a league policy that requires players to stand during the anthem. After Dallas Cowboys’ owner, Jerry Jones, made his position clear that he expected his players to stand, McNair followed with “We can’t have the inmates running the prison.”

I know, I know, there are a bunch of Blacks who just can’t stand the thought of having to give up their precious football who are already scrambling to justify the statement. They will say it is only a figure of speech. They will also point out that the NFL has White players too. They will do everything but acknowledge the fact that this owner referred to the league as a prison and its players as inmates.

These people have consistently gone out of their way to disrespect us and we have gone out of our way to ignore the disrespect. Until we reach a point in which we develop a backbone, we will constantly find ourselves underneath the boot of White oppression and racial manipulation.

It is imperative that we weaponize the Black dollar — developing and focused spending agenda that will serve as the foundation for the building of vertical structure designed to house Black group economics at every level in the vertical complex.

There has to be a point in which we stop asking for respect and we start demanding it — first by respecting ourselves enough not to spend our money with those who disrespect us. Then build our own so that we will not be dependent on external forces that work towards our demise with every fiber of their being. We and we alone are responsible for our empowerment and progression, it is time that we assume that responsibility.
