White Texas Girl Caught With Weed, Cocaine and Scales Called “Adorable” and “Entrepreneurial” by MediaI Promise that I cannot make this up, in Media Calls White Girl Caught with Drugs and Scales Adorable, entrepreneurial, you will find a synopsis of the latest revelation of white privilege and how the news media is used to write the race narrative for the masses. Here is the synopsis as presented byThere are thousands of black men and women behind bars for non-violent drug
offenses, but so far jail has been viewed as too harsh a punishment for a white Texas girl found not only with drugs, but scales as well.

Sarah Furay, 19, was found with heroin, cocaine, LSD, marijuana, and methamphetamine, as well as packing materials and two digital scales, according to the Death and Taxes blog.

Furay was arrested and let go hours later after posting $39,000 bail.

In her mugshot, described as “the happiest mug shot in America”, Furay is seen smiling and seemingly unconcerned. The teen was also described as “adorable” by Death and Taxes, but the blog later issued an apology. After her arrest it became clear why Furay may’ve been nonchalant about the arrest: Her father is a DEA agent.

And the news media didn’t try holding her accountable either. Michael Brown was described as “no angel” by The New York Times after having been gunned down by Darren Wilson. But Furay, an alleged criminal caught with a boatload of drugs and drug manufacturing and distribution equipment, was described as having taken “an entrepreneurial approach to avoiding student loan debt.”

The Daily Beast notes how these racial stereotypes, the inclination to view a white drug dealer as “entrepreneurial” and a black drug dealer as a thug, manifest in the criminal justice system:

In a 2009 report, Human Rights Watch found black adults to be arrested for drug charges at rates 2.8 to 5.5 times higher than those of white adults in every year from 1980 through 2007—the most recent for which there was data. One in three of those arrested in that time period was African American.

The study also found, as many since have as well, that although African Americans make up the majority of drug arrests, they are not more likely to use drugs or sell them.

As for Furay, she’s still facing charges, but if the news coverage of her alleged crime is any indication, the judge probably won’t throw the book at her. We’re still waiting to see if she’ll spend months or years inside a jail cell for her alleged criminal acts.
