Rude Awakening!

“[We should] apply a stern and rigid policy of sterilization and segregation to that grade of population whose progeny is tainted, or whose inheritance is such that objectionable traits may be transmitted to offspring.” ~ Margaret Sanger

“We should hire three or four colored ministers, preferably with social-service backgrounds, and with engaging personalities. The most successful educational approach to the Negro is through a religious appeal. We don’t want the word to go out that we want to exterminate the Negro population, and the minister is the man who can straighten out that idea if it ever occurs to any of their more rebellious members.” ~ Margaret Sanger

The two aforementioned quotes were made by Margaret Sanger, the founder of planned parenthood, and the catalyst behind some of the most pernicious legislation imaginable, in which black women were forcibly sterilized as a means to reduce the black population.

What I want to point to here is her almost instinctive approach to using black ministers to soften the resistance of blacks to the idea. While many in the black community are up in arms about the 100 plus black pastors who met with Donald Trump, a study of history would reveal that the black minister has been used as the control medium for the black collective throughout American History. In fact, the black minister is the creation of white slave owners.

Initially, slaves were not allow to congregate for any type of religious gathering; however, slave owners determined that ordaining Christian ministers and managing what they preached was one of the most effective ways to control the thoughts of the masses. And, we know from Carter G. Woodson that when you control what a man thinks, you do not have to worry about his actions.

The original black ministers were given specific instructions on what to preach, and when it came to slavery, which was a common theme, the slave was always to be black and the master white (Although this was historically inaccurate). The positions as a minister was one that was coveted beyond measure, because of the false perception of power associated with it, and the approbation it earned from the white masters for a job well done.

While there have always been black ministers who defied the tenets of their appointment by their white masters, much in the way that Dr. Pastor Jamal Bryant is currently doing, far too many grew comfortable and safe with their newfound position of approbation and benefit by their white masters. This led to a built in desire to please the white man by keeping blacks in their place. It also led to a natural proclivity to enrich themselves while ensuring that their congregations remained impoverished. Why? Impoverished people are powerless to effect change, while being financially empowered liberates through the presentation of options.

We should not be surprised by what we see from these black pastors. It is far more common than most of you imagine, it is just not normally played out on a national stage. This time around, the stakes are higher.

I am not sure if you noticed, but Pastor Jamal Bryant has been demonized in the media lately, and crucified by a lot of his own. When I see this, I view it as being indicative of a man not being willing to play by the rules. A man that actually has his people in mind. This does not mean that I agree with Dr. Bryant’s philosophy in totality. I do not have to. I just need to know that he loves my people as much as I do. Everything else is negotiable. The first thing you do in war is to determine who is fighting on what side.

What I am saying here is that the majority blacks in America practice some form of Christianity, meaning they should be familiar with Hosea verse 6.

“my people are destroyed for lack of knowledge.”

This verse is one of the most often quoted and misunderstood verses in the Bible.

QUICK DISCLAIMER: Whether you believe that the Bible as the inerrant word of God is irrelevant here. When this book is understood for it really is, it still has a lot to offer, so ride with me for a minute.

While many Christians quote this portion of Hosea verse six, they do it out of context and without understanding. One of the gravest problems with blacks is we lack context. First of all, Hosea is not addressing Israel as a whole. He is addressing the Levitical Priesthood, the religious leaders of the day — starting to sound familiar?

Additionally, the above quote is not even the full verse, so let’s look at the rest:

“Because you have rejected knowledge,
I also reject you as my priests;
because you have ignored the law of your God,
I also will ignore your children.
7 The more priests there were,
the more they sinned against me;
they exchanged their glorious God[b] for something disgraceful.” (Hosea 4:6b – 7, NIV)

Hosea was addressing the priest who were not properly teaching their followers, but taking advantage of them. Sound familiar? It amazes me how often the Bible gives commands that if actually followed would cause the reader to open their eyes.

Here is another for good measure:

“15 Be diligent to present yourself approved to God as a workman who does not need to be ashamed, accurately handling the word of truth.”

This is a command of Paul to Timothy about the importance of the accurate dissemination of scripture. Keep in mind, this supposedly precedes 325 A.D. when the Bible, as it is constructed now, was comprised (An entirely different lesson reserved for another time).

Ultimately, what I am attempting to convey here is the absence of critical thought and personal research has rendered more than half of the black collective completely stagnant and useless. Everyone is waiting on someone else to tell them what to do, with the predominance waiting on pastors and the occurrence of some miracle.

Dr. Rick Wallace, Ph.D.
The truth is that any pastor who has amassed wealth, understands the principles of getting wealth, but the vast majority have failed to teach their congregation how to do the same, choosing to teach them a prosperity gospel that postulates that wealth and prosperity is the birthright of the Christian. The truth is that prosperity and wealth belong to the one who enlightens themselves and takes appropriate action, regardless to religious affiliation.

Many pastors will never teach this because the principles of building wealth in a capitalist society is to own the resources and tools, while leveraging the labor and activity of others to enrich yourselves.

Now, ask yourselves who are the others that pastors are leveraging to enrich themselves?

Here is the unadulterated truth: the black church raises more than $300 million per week on a national level, while black communities continue to be overrun by violence or consumed through gentrification — meaning that the black church, as a whole, has no relevant positive impact on the black collective. While black pastors are viewed as leaders in the community. The truth is that far too many have no true presence in the black community.
