VIDEO: Cops Beat Mom In Front Of Children, Over Seatbelt Violation ~ Cindy Hahn is suing the city of Carlsbad, California over her July 2013 arrest that was caught on video. The video shows her being punched in the head by an officer as she is being held down on the ground by another. The case has been filed in federal court and includes charges of excessive force, battery, negligence and federal and state civil rights violations.

What makes this particular case worse than others is that Hahn’s young children witnessed her being beaten by cops. Hahn says the video of the incident was recorded on ‘the worst day of her life’ and shows her screaming ‘help me’ as she is pummeled in the face. Hahn says her children, aged 7 and 11, were screaming as they witnessed the beating from the car. Hahn reports that her son is still traumatized over not being able to help his mother.
Hahn, whose own father is a retired police officer, says that the altercation was instigated by her asking an officer, who was standing next to a car with its alarm blasting, what was going on. The officer proceeded to ask her if the vehicle belonged to her, and when she told him no, the officer responded by saying, “Then, mind you won f—–g business.”
Hahn was taken aback by what the officer had said to her, and she reported the incident to authorities after the officer continued to swear at her but then left the scene. A short time later, Hahn reports that the same officer pulled her over for an alleged seat belt violation.
The officer quickly escalated the situation, with it further escalating when back-up arrived. It was not until a third officer showed up that she was helped to her feet as the officer helped her hike down her dress.
The video helped the District Attorney drop felony charges against Hahn for battery on a police officer and resisting arrest. According to court documents, she suffered permanent memory loss and brain trauma from the blows to the head.
Court documents also allege that officers lied about the incident under oath during Hahn’s criminal proceedings, and the lawsuit requests that the officers be fired and reformed.
