When Black Lives Matter (I Can’t Breath)

The black race is in peril; more than any other time in history. As the vast majority of our people continue their perpetual slumber, we are being systematically destroyed. The recent killing of several unarmed black youth at the hands of white police officers has only served to further illuminate the current position of powerlessness of blacks in America. As protestors take to the streets of cities across this nation to declare that black lives matter, I am afraid that the vast majority of them are oblivious to the true nature of the enigmatic issues that plague our people.

Never has the value of anything been established through pleading and reasoning. Value is something that is established through the appreciation for the rarity and potential of something. Before we can expect others to acknowledge the great value in our lives, we must first come to a place where we value ourselves. Value is so much more than a simple sentiment. Value is the dictator of action and sacrifice. When true value is perceived, one is driven to protect the worth of that which they find valuable.

I am far from one of those people who chose to assert that the behavior of blacks is an excuse for others to mistreat us. I believe that particular argument is asinine. My assertion is buried within the internal corporate psyche of our people. It is not that I believe that our behavior serves as a pass for others to mistreat us. I believe that our behavior is a reflection of the reality that we have yet to discover our true value. Rationally, we can assert that we have value; however, the internal mechanisms of our soul are still inextricably bound to psychological impressions that have been carried over from slavery.

We say that black lives matter, but we still struggle with self-hatred and inferiority complexes associated with the inculcation of deceptive images into the psyche. Although some have awakened from their slumber, their vision is still foggy; therefore, the message of power, emancipation and greatness is somewhat nebulous. They can see it, but the path is still unclear.

Discovering our Worth

The internal turmoil, both, individually and as a collective organism, that we are experiencing is our greatest enemy. You see, when we truly discover our worth, holding a picket sign will not be sufficient to express our discontent. When we discover our worth, we will no longer be appeased by the crumbs from the master’s table. When we discover our worth, we will become determined to build our own table. When we discover our worth, we will become committed to teaching our youth of their heritage and power, while equipping them with the knowledge and skills that will ensure that this will never happen to our people again.

We must take a page out of the books of the European Jew. They have determined that by any means necessary, they will never endure anything like the holocaust again. They teach their youth and prepare them to take positions of economic power and ownership.

Our Greatest Weakness

Personal Development BannerYou cannot remove the foot of the oppressor from your neck through reasoning. The foot of the oppressor must be removed through active force, “power concedes nothing without demand (Frederick Douglass), but first, we must come to a point in which we truly believe that our neck does not belong under the foot of the oppressor. Then we must take action that is indicative of our demand that the oppressor remove their foot from our necks. When the demand is made, we must be in a position to respond to the refusal of the oppressor to remove their foot by forcefully removing it.

Economic Empowerment

It would be foolish for us to believe that we can mount a physical insurrection against the evil of this nation that has perpetually administered suffering to our people; however, we are not without weapons. We have remained vulnerable to the machinations of our enemy because we have no economic power through which to insulate ourselves from their pernicious assaults. Economic empowerment is the first buffer against oppression. Financial fluidity guards against tyranny.

As Dr. Claud Anderson has so committedly shared with us, on the eve of the civil war, quasi-free blacks owned one half of one percent of this nation’s wealth. Here we are 150 years later and the blacks in this country own only one half of one percent of this nation’s wealth. It is the failure to amass wealth that has made us vulnerable to the virulent attacks of a white supremacist system that is designed to capitalize on our suffering.

If we are to prove our value, we must come to the realization that we cannot protest or even vote our way out of suffering. Voting and protest have no power without economic fluidity to underwrite it. We must learn to speak with our wallets. Our cries for respect must be replaced with demands that are expressed through the building of economic centers in every city. We must show the value of black life by working hard to protect it.

As long as we are at the mercy of our oppressor to provide relief, we will continue to sink into the abyss of grand-suffering.

IMG_1034My brothers and sisters, I understand your pain. I am not aloof to your suffering. I can sense your frustration. I implore you to put down your picket signs and pick up a book on financial planning and investing. Pick up a book that will open your mind to starting and owning your business. Pick up a book that explains that inherent greatness that resides within your genetic structure. Access the power that is embedded within your spiritual DNA. It is time to rise.

It is time to send a message to the enemy that we are no longer requesting relief, we are demanding it. ~ Dr. Rick Wallace, Ph.D.
