Dr. Umar Johnson Address Spiritual Poverty in Black Religion

Dr. Umar JohnsonIn this video, Dr. Umar Johnson addresses how black religion has separated itself from the history of black ancient spirituality, which is the parent of all religions. This has led to a situation in which blacks have been emotionally submersed into a traditional system in which they lack complete wholeness and spirituality. The vast majority black religious believers are heavily weighted in emotionalism, but lack true spirituality and intellectualism, which creates wholeness.

Dr. Johnson further addresses how fear has been used to conditioned blacks to not ask questions or challenge doctrines that don’t make sense. Through history, blacks have been taught that to question the Bible would draw the wrath of God. So, to question the possibility that the Bible may not be authentic or that Mohammed may not have been the only prophet of God, would bring down the wrath God.

It is important for blacks to understand that their faith in God cannot be fulfilled and complete without exposure to the complete truth of the history of their faith. When ancient African religion is omitted from history, it obscures the true measure  of spirituality and subjugates the mind of the believer. It makes the believer docile and easy to manipulate. Without the complete history of any religion, the religion is actually the perpetuation of a lie, because “ommission” is deception. Black religion must commit itself to understanding the history of their faith. ~ Dr. Rick Wallace, Ph.D.
