Nationwide — The National Hook-Up of Black Women, Inc., (NHBW) a non-profit organization that works to improve the quality of life, facilitate family preservation, achieve self-empowerment, and promote economic development, is proud to announce its’ 2014 Membership Drive.

Celebrating 40 years of existence, NHBW, Inc. is currently accepting members to further exemplify their mission and achievements with 19 chapters in cities across the United States. NHBW, Inc. thrives on the work of its’ dedicated members, and has accomplished many notable achievements including the establishment of 28 “Reading for Life” rooms with free access to reading material, the development of T.O.P. (Teens Overcoming Pressure) a national effort to discourage teen dating violence, and building an increased awareness of mental health issues in the minority community.

National President Deborah Summers is extremely excited about the membership drive, and involving more exemplary individuals in the organization and mission efforts. “Serving that mission has been an exciting journey for us because it is rooted in the belief that empowering and highlighting women help to make strong families. From strong empowered families come stellar communities, better schools, and a much better world in which to live,” said Summers.

Benefits of Membership Include:
* Educational Conferences and Seminars
* Exclusive Networking and Social Events
* Organizational Leadership Experience
* Special Celebrations of the Achievements of Black Women
* A Lifelong Sisterhood with women in your community and beyond!

Upcoming special events include an October campaign to raise awareness on violence against women in the community. Coinciding with Domestic Violence Month, NHBW, Inc. will partner with a variety of organizations to carry out educational activities to raise awareness of domestic violence. On October 1st, NHBW, Inc. chapters across the country will wear purple acknowledging the start of Domestic Violence month. The organization is encouraging everyone, members or not, to join them to create awareness of this epidemic.

The NHBW, Inc. is a member of the National Black United Federation of Charities. During the Combined Federation Campaign (CFC), please direct your donation to the National Hook-Up of Black Women, Inc., CFC #10457.
